Toyota and GM to end fuel-cell joint venture
Toyota and General Motors will end their joint-research effort on fuel-cell development at the end of next month out of futility-- a 'lack of progress.' All is not bad news, however... the two automakers will extend their alliance in other disciplines (advanced safety, 'intelligent transportation systems,' etc.) for another year. The original Toyota-GM agreement stems back to 1999.
The split in this area of the joint venture may find Toyota seeking another partner to develop the technology... a move that would likely shake up alliances in the entire industry.

It looks like GM and Toyota get along better than autobloggers on this site.

GM should wash their hands of Toyota and stand on their own two feet. Why does GM rebadge Toyotas like the Pontiac Vibe? If I want a GM car, I want it to be GM.
GM ruins there own name by mettling with product brand names. I sure most most people think the Matrix is a better car than a Vibe even though they are the same. GM you don`t have to be Toyota`s big brother any more. They are about to crush you!
GM if you want the world to believe you build better cars, the cars have to be your cars.
You need to be better friends with Ford than Toyota. Its us against them now.

HA HA HA! Yeah, the Japanese used to copy us - now we desperately try to copy them and they still kick our collective asses in the process.

"Its us against them now."
Who is this "us"? It's GM against their own customers and employees. I want nothing to do with them.

"Remember Apple was having trouble with their US operations also, but because of competition with their rival IBM and Dell in the pc business, that they branch out to other markets besides the personal computer market. In short, they introduce the iPod, which revolutionize the MP3 industry. Now Apple is back in the mainstream and admired in the minds of Americans."
I wonder if those iPods would have existed without Microsuck infusing Apple with some cash? (http://news.com.com/MS+to+invest+150+million+in+Apple/2100-1001_3-202143.html)

it probably ended because the japanese engineers were tired of giving the less qualified americans a free ride off their work.

Appartently what you don't know is thanks to manufacturers like Toyota, Subaru, Diahatsu? and Daewoo, GM sells some of the best built vehicles they've never made!!!

What is more pathetic is ignorance and laziness in the US. It seems to permeate the land from coast-to-coast. Maybe that is why owners are easily spoon fed with advertisement falsity, Internet filled myths to replace truths, and gullible sensations for the finger to whip on the keyboard.
Nothere is no leading technology coming out of Japan. We know that is the case since the Toyota Hybrid caper and Honda borrowing Ballard patents. The leading Fuel Cell innovators are not even Japanese. Try like the Americans and again, the Germans. Next time, spend the energy in the right direction on searching the patent database. You be surprised who, what, when, and where

GM has bigger problems than building better cars than Toyota or Honda. Toyota and Honda are about to start mass production of hydrogen fuel cell fueled cars which will move us away from gasoline propelled vehicles. They're pollution free cars and will change the automobile industry forever.
The companies that come up with the most best technologies within this technology and be first to market will become the dominant player. Right now Honda and Toyota and GM have working prototypes. It may not be the end of GM if they learn to offer home and business energy solutions packaged with their new fuel cell automobile technology. Honda is doing it.
