REPORT: GM to show Chevy Orlando-based GMC Granite and hi-po Buick Regal in Detroit
It seems as though it's just about impossible to keep an embargo in place these days. A Canadian outlet just spilled the beans on a couple of GM reveals set for Detroit next month. They say they were invited to a sneak preview Wednesday evening and although they couldn't take pics, they felt free to tell us about the whole array of models. Some have been loosely-guarded secrets, but a couple are unknowns, so we'll quote CanadianDriver on those until we get confirmation from GM. Apparently, The General will have a slew of new model ... First Drive: 2010 Lexus GX 460 sticks to its trucky roots 14 days ago on Autoblog
The 2002 Lexus GX 470 was little more than a Toyota 4Runner with a healthy dollop of Lexus luxury on top, but at the time, it didn't have to be anything more than that. It seemed just about every automaker that had an SUV in the stable was introducing an uplevel version to capitalize on American ...
Dacia shows off new production Duster 4x4 15 days ago on Autoblog
You know what the problem with Autoblog is? Not enough Romanian cars! To rectify this hateful situation, we present to you the all-new Dacia Duster, a compact SUV that "rewrites the 4x4 rulebook." What that means is that in Europe, most SUVs are in fact soft roaders. Totally useless in the rough ...
LA 2009: Toyota and Billabong craft one funky Venza 19 days ago on Autoblog
No, this isn't a leftover post from SEMA, although to be perfectly fair, it is a leftover vehicle from SEMA. While reporting on the Hot Rod Toyota Tundra and Tacoma All-Terrain Gamer, we somehow missed this tricked-out Venza. Kitted out by the Australian surfwear mavens at Billabong, it's called ...
REPORT: Tata Motors back in the black as Jaguar/Land Rover fortunes improve 22 days ago on Autoblog
While many confusing car-related things have happened in the upper strata of the Autoverse over the last few years (Aston Martin and Ferrari both being impart owned by Middle Eastern concerns, Aston Martin not being bankrupt) perhaps the most shocking and disconcerting was Ford's sale of Jaguar ...

Lexus introduces second-generation 2010 GX460 1 month ago on Autoblog
Two steps forward and one step back seems to be the rally cry of the new 2010 Lexus GX460. This second-generation, three-row, mid-size, body-on-frame SUV from Lexus replaces the GX470, which, as its name implies, had a slightly larger engine. That 4.7-liter V8 engine, however, couldn't touch the ...

Said the executive creative director of the 2010 Toyota 4Runner media campaign: "This is the last authentic SUV. All the rest have gone suburbia." By "authentic" he means dirt, surf, wilds, and maybe bears, and to show you how to get there, Toyota has rolled out the Toyota Trail Tracker. A ...

Officially Official: Toyota launches European Land Cruiser [w/VIDEO] 1 month ago on Autoblog
Back before SUVs became all the rage, for decades, Toyota built a bruiser of a truck called Land Cruiser. Like its counterparts from America and the UK, the Jeep CJ/Wrangler and the Land Rover Range Rover, the Land Cruiser has always delivered the biscuits for the world's hardcore off-roaders. ...
Mahindra maps out 'potential' U.S. dealer network for forthcoming small diesel pickup 1 month ago on Autoblog
No, you're not looking at yet another voting map, or even a topographical depiction of the WalMarting of America (trust us, you don't want to see that). The image seen above is that of Mahindra's "dealership network." We're putting quotes on that because the Indian automaker says on its website ...

Spy Shots: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee out testing in Detroit 1 month ago on Autoblog
A little lawsuit isn't going to keep Chrysler from getting the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee ready for production. The next generation family-sized Jeep was spotted on Michigan roads. Looking rather spiffy in a matte black coat, from the side the SUV is a Cherokee with just a bit of a twist. However, ...
Hummer grinds gears: production of 2010 H3 and H3T resumes 1 month ago on Autoblog
Although the Hummer sale isn't officially official – which is to say, the Chinese authorities haven't told Tengzhong "Proceed!" – it is official enough that GM has restarted production of the 2010 H3 and H3T at its Shreveport, LA plant. General Motors didn't want to be stuck with ...

SEMA 2009: What we didn't get to cover 1 month ago on Autoblog
Every year at SEMA, we fill the week with posts featuring special vehicles and products that we felt were important enough to share. Generally, they are the most newsworthy projects and new model introductions, but sometimes they are just things that caught our eye. When all is said and done, we ...
SEMA 2009: Ford SVT Raptor even more appealing with 6.2-liter V8 1 month ago on Autoblog
If Ford had only offered the 5.4-liter V8 in the SVT Raptor and called it a day, we doubt anyone would have complained. Just the fact that the Blue Oval even had the guts to build such a vehicle deserves applause. But they didn't. The 2009 SEMA Show saw the introduction of Ford's 6.2-liter V8 ...
SEMA 2009: Hummer quartet is a pretty sweet swansong 1 month ago on Autoblog
We almost skipped the Hummer section of the General Motors booth this year at SEMA, concentrating instead on the plethora of Chevrolet Camaro concepts all around them. When we went back for a second look at the day's new design for the Graphics Camaro, we saw the truck above and figured we ...
SEMA 2009: Bigfoot still a crowd favorite, 35 years later 1 month ago on Autoblog
We distinctly remember 3rd grade. Specifically, sitting in the library once a month during recess. Why would we give up dodgeball and four-square to sit inside and read? Because the new issues of Off Road and 4Wheeler had just dropped and they had stories about Bigfoot! Bearfoot too, and ...
Jeep Patriot and Compass being replaced by models from Fiat... Panda, here we come! 1 month ago on Autoblog
It comes as little surprise that Jeep is looking beyond its current Patriot and Compass models, which have, to put it mildly, underperformed in the burgeoning compact CUV market. While the two concepts had lots of potential, the actual production ComPatriot twins were deemed uncompetitive with ...

Mexico's Cimex Conin concept renderings looks like a Latino Lambo LM002 1 month ago on Autoblog
Though automakers too numerous to list operate plants and build cars in Mexico, the country South of the Border doesn't really have a homegrown auto industry to speak of. One model doesn't exactly constitute as an "industry," but the Cimex Conin concept certainly seems like a step in the right ...
SEMA 2009: Jeep Lower Forty a favorite in the Mopar display 1 month ago on Autoblog
Our SEMA coverage generally doesn't include too much from the off-road segment, but the Jeep Lower Forty concept in the Mopar booth was too good to pass up. Sporting 40-inch Mickey Thompson tires, this Jeep can pretty much go wherever it wants without the help of a suspension lift. Granted, ...
SEMA 2009: 0-60 takes the Scion xD rallying 1 month ago on Autoblog
Screw convention! Why do you have to build a rally car out of something sporty? Or powerful? Or off-road-worthy? According to 0-60 magazine at least, you don't have to. You can build a rally car out of just about anything. Take this Scion xD for instance. It's probably among the last cars you'd ...
SEMA 2009: Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 isn't a Raptor wrangler... yet 1 month ago on Autoblog
That rumored Ford Raptor fighter from General Motors? Not quite. The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Concept (it's only a concept, but some of the components could be available on future pickups) is a reasonable attempt to bring the off-road fight back to Ford, with a four-inch lift, 20-inch BBS RD ...
SEMA 2009: 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor 6.2 packs 411 HP 1 month ago on Autoblog
When Ford first revealed the new F-150 SVT Raptor a year ago, the initial powerplant was the same 5.4-liter V8 found in more pedestrian F-series trucks. At the launch, however, Ford officials promised that an all-new 6.2-liter V8 would become available right about ... now!. Well a month from ...
